Have you recently moved to a new apartment? If yes, you can make your apartment feel like a home without drilling or hammering property you do not know. We are here to help you by providing you tips on how to make your apartment feel like a home. Read below to get started.

Assessing the Space

Before you decorate your apartment, you need to assess your space. How will you best use your space? Since apartments are often smaller than homes, you should do your best to combine space. Make your dining room part of your living room space. You can do this by making your dining room table be used simultaneously as a desk and a table for eating.  Make your living room area a guest bedroom. You can do this by having a sleep sofa instead of a normal sofa.

Next, look at your floor plan to scale your furniture correctly. You want to be able to move around your apartment. Buy furniture that will allow your apartment to feel roomy. Ask your landlord what you are allowed to install in your apartment. Here are some questions to ask:

Ø Can I paint?

Ø Can I replace flooring?

Ø Can I hang pictures on the Walls?

Let It Hang

Use as much wall space as you can to keep your floor plan an open space. You can buy two-in-one appliances. Mount cookware, spices, and utensils on steel bars with S hooks on your wall.

Use Seating That You Can Store Items Inside

Have plenty of bench seats in your living room. You can use bench seats for additional storage because you can lift the tops. Use space under bed for storage drawers as well.

Decorate to your heart’s content. Add colorful curtains to your windows. Add colorful mats to your floors.

Last but not least, be sure to have renters insurance. Even though you do not own your own home, you have personal property that can be lost to fires, burglaries and lawsuits. While most homeowners are insured for these risks, many renters are not. Although renters insurance is usually not required, it is necessary you have it. Not only will insurance protect your personal items, but it will also help with temporary housing and liability protection, such as medical expenses for people on your property or a lawyer if someone unintentionally injured by you sues you.

If the ceiling in your apartment is damaged by a storm, your landlord covers the ceiling. But what happens if your brand new stereo and TV that was damaged? Also, while the ceiling is being fixed, do you have enough money to immediately find another place to stay? These are the types of things that would be covered by your renter’s insurance policy.

Renters insurance can help you pay for repairing or replacing personal property that is damaged, destroyed or stolen. It may also cover most lawsuits or claims against you if you are responsible for injuring others or damaging their property.
